Treatment of Arsenic in Groundwater
This technical paper explains the treatment of arsenic in groundwater and highlights the importance of oxidation pretreatment for improving arsenic removal. In particular, the document notes that ozone can be used to oxidize arsenite [As(III)] to arsenate [As(V)], a less soluble form that is generally easier to remove through downstream treatment processes such as precipitation/coprecipitation, adsorption, ion exchange, and membrane filtration. This makes ozone an important supporting technology in properly designed arsenic treatment systems for groundwater and drinking water applications.
